Enterprising seniors on our Barstow Ningbo campus<\/a>\u00a0recently opened an on-campus caf\u00e9 bar for students and teachers to relax, socialize, and connect. Proceeds go towards local charitable organizations and causes. Senior Zhang Renzhou shares how the project came together, and their hopes for its future.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

What happens when you merge a coffee club with a trading club? You get an on-campus caf\u00e9 bar for students!\u00a0<\/span><\/span>During\u00a0<\/span><\/span>long-break time<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and the noon break<\/span><\/span>\u00a0time<\/span><\/span>, the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>caf\u00e9<\/span><\/span>\u00a0bar<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>provides\u00a0<\/span><\/span>all kinds of<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>drinks and dessert, such as coffee, black tea,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>thousand-layer cake,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>cream\u00a0<\/span><\/span>puffs, and more. Everything you need<\/span><\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>give students and teachers more\u00a0<\/span><\/span>energy<\/span><\/span>. With<\/span><\/span>\u00a010 students in\u00a0two\u00a0clubs, we are working to make the caf\u00e9 bar more welcoming for all. Not only do we have delicious\u00a0food and reasonable\u00a0prices, but the caf\u00e9 is<\/span><\/span> a charitable, non-profit organization and proceeds go to people in need.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"International<\/p>\n

When others ask about the original goal of this caf\u00e9 bar, we proudly say: \u201cAs the senior students, we realized\u00a0that we\u00a0should set an example not only with our studies; we should do more things to help them in daily life.\u201d\u00a0With advice from teachers, guidance from school leaders, and much discussion between club members, we decided to establish this unique caf\u00e9.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We imagined a place where students could do two things: taste wonderfully prepared food and enjoy the comfortable environment. They could experience a break of body and brain, set aside stress from studying, and relax physically and mentally, helping the rest of their day be more effective.\u00a0But it is also a place for communication – a place\u00a0 to exchange ideas and thoughts. When our teachers come to the caf\u00e9, it provides a great opportunity to practice spoken English and enhance relationships with them.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"International<\/p>\n

Food safety is top priority.\u00a0To prepare for opening day, we carefully selected all kinds of professional tools, such as\u00a0coffee machines, microwave ovens, refrigerators, spoons, paper cups,\u00a0and\u00a0forks. At the same time,\u00a0we contacted\u00a0trustworthy business\u00a0partners\u00a0to ensure the hygiene and safety of the ingredients.\u00a0We also set a rule that all food not sold\u00a0on the same day will be\u00a0disposed of, ensuring the freshness of the food.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Strawberries<\/p>\n

Our caf\u00e9 bar staff are careful, thoughtful, and responsible. To determine satisfaction, we recently surveyed our customers for feedback and got positive responses.\u00a0\u201cI feel that the seniors are really setting an example,” said one customer. “They opened the caf\u00e9 bar, they are operating their own business, and the are donating money to help people. They are contributing to society as well as providing a convenience to us. It is like a practical business course where they combine what they have learned, what they are putting into practice, and what they hope to learn. It is meaningful and if I have the chance, I would like to join them.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"International<\/p>\n

Though only open for a short time, we have already learned so much from this experience. By learning how to operate, organize, and manage a store, we are gaining a deeper understanding of teamwork, the importance of social responsibility, and how to bring positive impact to the community.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cWe are accumulating a lot of\u00a0experience\u00a0through the\u00a0operation\u00a0of\u00a0this caf\u00e9 bar, which is good for our future,” says one team member. “The caf\u00e9 bar is not only important to us, but also to the unique brand of our school.\u00a0In the future, we will pass it on to our classmates to run. And though the people in charge of\u00a0this caf\u00e9 bar\u00a0will continue to change, its meaning and goal will never change.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
